I just found this...

Moss sent this to me at some point some time ago. I'm not 100% sure of the circumstances behind it, but I think it's cool to see a BG shirt on a kid walking the streets of Moscow. :-)

I hate new year's day.

I'm so proud to be from the Erie shore....

Um...yeah. This is about 15 minutes from me. At least this year they're not dropping the giant sausage in Elmore again!!

I don't even understand why people celebrate New Year's Day... I'll take the day off though! :-)

Activation!!

Just went out to the parking lot and my XM Radio has all 101 stations on it now!! WOO HOO!!! Going to be a good ride home!! It only took them 133 hours to activate my account. LOL...

In all honesty, I can't complain about the service I got. I was the only one out of 350,000 subscribers to experience this problem, but they figured it out and got me the hook up!!

I'll start reviewing stations as I get the opportunity to listen to them.

Word of the day....

buldering \bul'der-ing\ (adjective) : hot and muggy

It just sounds like the right word for that definition!

More XM info

So...I'm loving this XM radio even though I don't have the full package YET! I'm working with a guy in their NOC though to figure out why my subscription hasn't gone active. Even with 10 channels it's SO much better than anything on the air right now, and the quality of programming, sound, and style is amazing!

I'd definitely recommend the Delphi SkyFi package. I just went to Best Buy today and picked up the home kit for $19...yes, that's right, it's normally $69 but I found a discontinued $50 off coupon here!! It's only good till the end of the year though, so if you're going to get something, get it NOW!! Print out 3 of them, go back in three times, get the radio, the car kit and the home kit....or even the BoomBox kit which looks pretty damn sweet!! Especially if space is an issue!

This whole XM thing is amazing!! You can surf through the stations to see what song is on before you decide to change stations. You get a preview list of all stations and what is on them. The SkyFi has a great alphanumeric display that gives you all the info you'd ever want. What station you're listening to, what your signal strength is, and the name of the song and artist that's playing! What makes that doubly sweet is that there is a memory button that you can capture that info if you hear a song you absolutely love but know you'll never remember it long enough to write it down, just hit the memory button and it stores up to 10 of them for you to write down later when you have the chance!!

If you're interested in more info, check out XMFAN.COM. They've got a bunch of really knowledgeable people on there and lots of pics of installations so you can see how other people have integrated the radios in their rides. That's my next project, to get it permanently mounted in my truck. I think I'm going to route the antenna cable in through the high mounted brake light on the S-10...and I've got the perfect place to mount the receiver too. I'll post pictures when I've done it.

Oh yeah, XMFAN.COM has free stickers too!! Hard to argue with that!

I got the home kit hooked up to my Sony amp, pumping it through the sub and it sounds GREAT!! I can't speak for the Sony XM radios or any of the other head units that come with XM capabilities built in, but the Delphi is one of the coolest little things I've ever seen or heard!!

Radio to the power of X

Well, I've gotta say, this XM radio is SWEEEEEEEET!!! Only problem is, I activated it online on Christmas eve, and it STILL is only getting the 10 preview stations. Apparently their system was overwhelmed with the holiday rush and they're running behind. That according to Xena (yes...really) on their support line. Anyhow, my mom got me the Delphi SkyFi XM radio for Christmas...it's AWESOME!! This AM, one of my preview channels was all 90's. Salt 'N' Peppa, George Michael, Mandy Moore, Janet Jackson, Afroman, Cisqo....GOOD STUFF!! And when it finally activates the whole subscription, there's 101 stations to chose from with everything from music, to talk, to yes....the all NASCAR station! And it's all CD quality sound. I was completely surprised by the gift, but I gotta say...it's perfect!! I spend over 2 hours in my truck most days, it should provide TONS of listening enjoyment. Thanks mom!!!

Getting closer!!

Christmas eve...

Working a half day today, then trying to hit Media Play for that last minute gift cert for a certain doctor friend.

We're supposed to get 5 - 8" of snow tonight (which in Ohio weather caster speak means 1 - 2"), but I'm excited for a white Christmas!!!

Tonight we'll go to the service at church...should be really nice. We have a choir director who can sing so beautifully, and she's going to sing my favorite Christmas song, O Holy Night!

Mom is coming over for our family Christmas this afternoon, then church, then Maryellen and I will open our presents tomorrow AM with the doggie and then it's on to Grandma's house.

Merry Christmas everyone!! (Miss you dad...)

Auuuuuuuuuuuuugh

ay-ziggy-zoomba.com is STILL down!!

This SUCKS. I need to find ANOTHER hosting company again...maybe I'm just jinxed. This is really pissing me off.

They can't even tell me what's wrong with the server itself. If they can't recover my data, I'm dead. :-( The last backup I did was about 2 weeks ago, and the site is so dynamic there have been over 2500 posts since then.

Oh well... Feliz Navidad.

UPDATE...

Here's a link to my hosting company's site with their "explanation" of what's going on with ay-ziggy-zoomba.com. To those of you who love the site so much, if you're checking in here, I'm truly sorry that the site isn't available. I may end up paying a little more in the future, but I'm going to find a more reliable server after the new year.

VH1 show

Caught the VH1 series "I love the 80's" last night. Couldn't believe they did all of 82 and 83 and didn't once mention Asia (the #1 album of 1982)...but it's a pretty fun show none-the-less. Monday was 80 and 81, last night 82 and 83 and so forth all week. If you're a child of the 80's like me...it's worth tuning in at 9 and 10.

'Tis the season

I just went to Target on my lunch hour...oh my GOD it sucked!! First of all, the whole reason I went, for the Kodak picture studio thingiemagig that will blow up prints w/o the negatives and stuff, was out of order. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I decided to go buy the frames for the photos anyway, might as well, I'm there, right? I bought 4 frames, a 12 of Diet Pepsi Twist (the most wonderful non-alcoholic beverage ever), and a PowerBar. 6 items, I qualify for the Express lane!! Lucky me...it took me roughly 20 minutes to get through the line because of some woman somewhere ahead of me that had way more than 6 items AND the cash register receipt paper ran out when I got there. Joy to the world...

Thank you...I had to vent.

An Historic Day!!

Hard to believe it was 13 years ago today that The Simpsons premiered on Fox. Check out the Official Site or another great Simpsons site. I still think Fox's greatest contribution to television was Get A Life though!!

Migrane...

I woke up at 1:17 this morning with a migrane. Unfortunately, since I haven't been at my job for a year yet, I don't have any sick time to take. Normally I wouldn't care and would just take the day w/o pay, but this time of year, things are a bit tight, so I'll buck it up and try to work today. Maybe I'll crash and die on my commute in...or maybe I'll get to work and puke all over Leslie. :-)

Looks like snow is on the way for this evening, so maybe I'll take Maryellen's car to work since the S-10 likes to spin round and round in the snow.

Emily Dickinson

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Emily Dickinson... Having been an English major, I had to read a LOT of Emily Dickinson. She's very "readable" for those who don't like poetry...her writing is the style one thinks of when you're 8 years old and think of a poem. This is one of my favorites...

I heard a Fly buzz--when I died--
The Stillness in the Room
Was like the Stillness in the Air--
Between the Heaves of Storm--

The Eyes around--had wrung them dry--
And Breaths were gathering firm
For that last Onset--when the King
Be witnessed--in the Room--

I willed my Keepsakes--Signed away
What portions of me be
Assignable--and then it was
There interposed a Fly--

With Blue--uncertain stumbling Buzz--
Between the light--and me--
And then the Windows failed--and then
I could not see to see--

A rival for TheOnion.com???

Have you checked out The Schmews yet?

I've also added a stream of the latest satire links on the right side of this page --->
All for the good of humanity.

And taking a cue from Eddo, I've added a random quote generator which is full of actual inspirational quoets at this point (from the database I populated for work) but I'll be updating it to reflect my more cynical outlook I think. If anyone has great quotes...please send them. BTW the quote script is written in php/MySQL if anyone cares...

New BLOG

My friend Cheryl has a new blog. She's a law student at UT, a good friend, and quite a babe. :-) Check out her blog at http://cheryl.pepperguy.com. She used to have a home page at U of M, but it looks like it's been taken down. Oh well...

Not much happening in my life over the weekend. Tomorrow I'm going to Ann Arbor with Ravi for a basketball game. Mom stopped over last night to see our Christmas Tree, which looks quite awesome, I must say.

OH! I set up this awesome shopping cart program yesterday at www.peppercards.com/catalog if anyone wants to play with it, please feel free. The admin interface is up at www.peppercards.com/admin neither is protected with a password at this point...like I said, I'm just playing...but it's really sweet and all open source/free software!! I plan to implement it for a good friend of ours who has a gift basket business and give her an online store at some point.

Break it down....

Your best friend Harry has a brother Larry
In five days from now he's gonna marry
He's hopin you can make it there if you can
'Cause in the ceremony you'll be the best man
You say "neato"... check your libido
And roll to the church in your new tuxedo
The bride walks down just to start the wedding
And there's one more girl you won't be getting
So you start thinkin, then you start blinkin
A bride maid looks and thinks that you're winkin
She thinks you're kinda cute so she winks back
And now you're feelin really fine cus the girl is stacked
Reception's jumpin, bass is pumpin
Look at the girl and your heart starts thumpin
Says she wants to dance to a different groove
Now you know what to do g, bust a move

One more reason to hate most people...

From WTOL TV:

Two deer that were trapped on ice on the Maumee River have been shot dead by a hunter. The deer were in a stretch of the river by Texas, Ohio, south and west of Toledo. The two female deer were in the middle of the river, on the ice, and they couldn’t regain their footing to get back to the shore. Early this morning, a hunter went out onto the ice, and shot both deer. He was arrested by officers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, because Henry County has a law preventing the shooting of female deer on Fridays.

I don't know if anyone who reads this got to see them or not, but they showed the deer on the news this AM and they were SO cute...I don't see how he could just sit there and plunk them with his rifle....they were completely helpless. Hunting is about sport and conservation I thought!??!?!

Stuff like this REALLY upsets me. Freaking idiot humans. How about that great law though huh? Guess I shouldn't complain, if it weren't for that, this guy would get away with his inhumane act completely clean.

For the geeky...

I've switched all my DNS over to EveryDNS.net and have been extremely pleased with the ease involved with making changes and of course the price!!! (it's free!!)

On a similar note...some of you non-profit types out there (I believe it goes for individuals too, as long as you're not in it for profit) check out the CCCP, no...it's not the pre-collapse Soviet Union (can you believe I once mis-spelled Soviet as Solviet 15 times in a history paper I wrote in high school??) it's a free co-lo service!! If you have the server and it's rack-mountable, they'll hook it up for you. SWEEEEEET!!

Friday 80s crap begins!!!

Continuing that age-old tradition of Friday 80s day in Grant's cube....well, it's not really age old...maybe a couple of years, and I don't really have a cube anymore...but anyhow....

Chaka Khan, let me rock you
Let me rock you, Chaka Khan
Let me rock you, that's all I wanna do
Chaka Khan, let me rock you
Let me rock you, Chaka Khan
Let me rock you, 'cause I feel for you
Chaka Khan, won't you tell me what you wanna do
Do you feel for me the way I feel for you
Chaka Khan, let me tell you what I wanna do
I wanna love you, wanna hug you, wanna squeeze you too
Let me take you in my arms
Let me fill you with my charms, Chaka
Cuz you know that I'm the one to keep you warm, Chaka
I'll make it more than just a physical dream
I wanna rock you, Chaka baby, cuz you make me wanna scream
Let me rock you -- rock you

More to come....

Karma??? I think NOT!

OK...my night was....um...interesting. I went to the BG basketball game tonight. Game was great...I just love basketball games at BG. Driving home, I'm tooling along the back roads and as I pass Pemberville on Sugar Ridge road, I notice a big pickup truck in the ditch. I slow way down and roll my window down to yell hello and make sure there wasn't someone still in the truck. There wasn't, so I headed towards home. About a quarter mile further, there a guy walking down the road, no coat, mind you, and it's about 15 degrees out. I stop and ask him if he needs a phone or a ride into town. He accepts my offer and I take him into Pemberville.

When I ask him (his name was Rocky) where he wants dropped, he tells me he's got 20 bucks if I'll take him home to Bradner. I grudgingly say OK, because Bradner is only a few miles away. On our way there it becomes evident that the guy is pretty drunk...and probably a little high too, he said he's afraid the cops will find his truck and find the joints in it and he'll be busted. Whatever...

I get him to Bradner and drop him off...he thanks me and I tell him to keep his money (ain't I a nice guy??). There was a lot of chit-chat on the ride to Bradner, I think he asked me 6 times where I lived, LOL.

So, I head out of Bradner and realize I haven't a freaking clue where I'm at. I drive in the general direction I think I should be driving in, and find myself surrounded by the lovely empty farmland that is NorthWest Ohio. Probably 20 minutes passes before I see a familiar road, SR 199. I get on it and promptly head the wrong way. Gotta love my sense of direction. When I see the sign that says Fostoria 15 miles...I realize I'm going the wrong way and turn around. I find Rt. 6 and finally end up back in Bowling Green where I get my bearings right and start the drive home all over again.

So how come I did something nice for someone...helped out my fellow man in need, and ended up getting lost and taking an extra hour to get home?!?! Come on karma!!!! Where the heck are ya?!?!

Check this story out about what Sony records is doing to protect their music from "pirates." You mean to tell me I have to buy the CD TWICE to rip MP3's to my hard drive?!?! What a bunch of BS. I'll NEVER buy a Sony CD if this comes into play...Ooooooooooooh...wait a minute, I COULD copy it to cassette tape though! THANK GOD!!!
