An Historic Day!!

Hard to believe it was 13 years ago today that The Simpsons premiered on Fox. Check out the Official Site or another great Simpsons site. I still think Fox's greatest contribution to television was Get A Life though!!

Comments

Get a life sucked.

I think you mean "A Historic Day"

Get a Life ruled...and I DEFINITELY mean AN historic day.

Maybe if you pronounced it "An 'istoric Day" I'd accept that.

Who am I kidding? I'd except anything, as I could care less.

I'm not even going to justify that with a response. Wait...I just responded. DAMN!

Here is one Virginia Tech professor's opinion:

Q. When is the article "a" versus "an" used?

Use "a" before a consonant sound.
"An" before a vowel sound. (The "n" in "an" prevents a speaker from pausing in trying to pronounce two successive vowel sounds.)
Consonant:
"One of a class of speech sounds characterized by constriction or closure at one or more points in the breath channel."
Vowel:
"One of a class of speech sounds in the articulation of which the oral part of the breath channel is not blocked and is not constricted enough to cause audible friction."
Examples:

a one-man show

a unit (The long "u" causes friction.)

a heavy load

an historic moment (The "hi" sound causes no friction.)

an honest man
