The Friday after Thanksgiving

Man it sucks having to work today...especially since it's Maryellen's birthday. I really don't know why we're here today. I was kind of busy this AM, but since noon, it's been a struggle to keep my eyelids open. One great benefit of being one of the few working today, the commute in was a breeze. In fact, I was doing 10MPH over what I normally do on just about every stretch of my drive because it was like driving through a ghost town. The stores were packed though once I got to Monroe St.

I'm not sure what to expect for the drive home...I don't know if things will be busy with shoppers or if they'll be dead because of no commuters heading home. Guess we'll just have to wait and see now won't we?!

I've been keeping my eye on the Franklin Park Mall webcam today...looks like a madhouse!! In fact, here it is:

Giving Thanks

Well, Thanksgiving went pretty well. We had a great meal at grandma Rife's...all the food was just awesome as it always is!! Maryellen's dad made it down here at about 11:15 and we were eating at g-ma's before 1. Good company, good food, not at all bad.

Maryellen had to take off pretty early though to try to get a nap in before having to go into work tonight. She never did get to sleep I don't think. That would just suck. I'd be asleep by about 10 and all my patients would die. LOL

Tomorrow is Maryellen's birthday. I guess she's turning 29 again. :-) Unfortunately, I have to work...grrrrrrrrr...so I'll get home about 6...she'll be ready to zonk out since she worked all night tonight...and then her birthday will be done and over with. :-( That sucks.

More and more things just always seem to suck...or maybe they always have and I just haven't noticed.

Faith Hill is on...she's hot. I really like this "Cry" song too...I remember seeing her first video "Wild one" or something like that...it was years ago...I thought wow...this woman is as beautiful as Cindy Crawford, but actually seems talented....even if it WAS a country song.

Norah Jones is on some Elvis tribute thing coming up tonight too...so, while it sucks to be home alone, at least there's some entertainment on TV.

I love it when stupid things pop into my head that make me smile...I just thought of the guy that lived in the basement in Real Genius...and couldn't remember his name...but then it popped. Lazlo!! Great movie!

Forever...

Man, some days just take FOREVER. Probably because it's the last day before Thanksgiving, but I don't know how many times I've looked at the clock and have been expecting one time, only to find that it's still an hour away.

Not sure what Thanksgiving will be like. Maryellen's dad is coming down and the three of us are going to go to my Grandma Rife's for lunch/dinner. THEN Maryellen has to go in and work that night, which kind of sucks, but hey, whatcha gonna do?

My friend Moss is doing a cool website for this place he eats at VERY frequently. He's eating the menu from beginning to end at a place called Henry Hunan's. As soon as I get the link to his site again, I'll post it, just because it's fun. He's doing it all on a tomcat server as an experiment.

I went to Anderson's and bought a new muffin pan at lunch. The Honeybaked Ham place was SWAMPED!! I also picked up a bottle of Xingu and a 6 of Winterhook. :-)

Me and Mellen

We're sitting here on the couch and Maryellen is watching me type this. She's not "blogged" before, so this is her maiden voyage. :-) This little utility is called w.bloggar and she thought it was called "booger." Hehehehehe...

The weekend is over, that sucks. I made chili this weekend though, which is awesome. I'm burping up the two bowls I just had (making me even fatter than before).

We went out with Mom today, she took us to lunch and then took Maryellen on a birthday shopping spree since she isn't going to be able to next weekend. (Mellen's bday is the 29th) Maryellen got a scroll saw!! Isn't she feminine?!?! It's pretty sweet...a Ryobi...I'll be playing with it too if she'll let me. She also got a D. Morgan print from a shop in BG. I got her one a few years back and this one had a message on it that jumped out at her. Very cool!!

Testing a new little utility...

This is being posted from a desktop application that runs under Windows and connects to my blog called w.bloggar. It looks pretty damn slick actually, and has all kinds of nice little text editing tools!! There are several other ones out there that I'm going to try...

Work today has been relatively eventful. Starting at about 9:30 AM, half of our office lost power (which includes about half of our servers). So Mike and I ran round and plugged the UPSs that were in bad outlets into good outlets. The server area was actually designed with three separate power drops, each on a different phase for this reason. About 2 hours into the partial outage, all power went down, so we downed all non-essential servers and equipment, leaving only our CSU/DSU, the Cisco2600, a hub and our main Linux server (clients' mail and websites). These were all powered by our biggest UPS which kept us up and online for the duration of the hour long outage!

Most of the snow has already melted away here in Toledo. :-( I wanted to go home and make snow angels too.

That was the view driving in this AM. :-)

SNOW!!!

Wow!! Woke up to about 2-3" of snow! Windy...snow is still blowing. Pretty sweet! It's really pretty outside, it's a wet clingy snow that's sticking to all the trees limbs and making everything look like it's covered in fluffy vanilla frosting!!

It's still dark out, but once the sun starts to light things up, I'm sure it will be beautiful!

Not looking forward to the idiots and the commute though. I'm guessing my 45 minute commute will take more than an hour this AM. Lots of 2 hour delays. I KNEW I should have been a teacher. ;-)

.:. UPDATE .:.

Well, it took me an hour and 15 minutes to get to work this AM (normal commute is 40-45 minutes. Apparently the snow plows weren't ready for the 4+" we got in Ottawa County or something. I fish-tailed a few times on Rt. 51...and that was only going 20 - 30 MPH (Ahhhhhhhh...the joys of a small, light, 2 wheel drive pickup truck!!). I actually grabbed my Fuji and snapped some photos while driving in. Don't know how they look because my workstation here doesn't have a USB interface (LOL...I know...I know...) but if they are at all interesting, I'll put them up tonight.

I'm done being an optimist

I'm getting really SICK of getting my hopes up for something...and then having them crash down around me. It's not good for my mental state and it's just general bullshit. I'm beginning to see that pretty much the world sucks and thinking otherwise is fruitless.

Finally!!

I think I'm finally feeling a little better. I was down Sunday and Monday...and didn't feel at all well yesterday. Some kind of stomach flu, NOT FUN!

Traded emails with one of my all time favorite people yesterday. It's always nice to hear from her when I do...which is sometimes rare. She's an angel though.

Man I slept well last night. I LOVE sleeping when it's cold. Our upstairs doesn't have heat, so it's chilly up there, especially if we keep the bedroom door closed and I usually sleep soundlyin the winter!

I think Ravi and I are going to start an investment club...then we'll become millionaires!

Watched Chicken Run again last night. Nothing worthwhile on TV so Maryellen and I just kind of said eenie meenie miney moe with the DVD's. :-)

Awesome log info!!

I was looking through my server logs for this page...well, for www.pepperguy.com in general, and someone got here (actually it logged 2 visits) by searching for "may i mambo dog-face to the banana patch"

That's just so freaking awesome!!

"get that kid out of here, give him a special test!"

"I'll have a shoe with cheese on it, and I want to massage your grandmother."

Thank God for Steve Martin!

Death becomes her.

It fascinates me how dead people can continue to enjoy fame and fortune. I'm thinking of the recent deaths of people like Kurt Kobain, Tupac, Aaliah, etc...

Nirvana just released a "new" album with Kobain singing....Tupac has had numerous CD's released since he died, Aaliah, has starred in a movie and has had a cd since her death. Tupac in particular just seems to keep right on rolling from the grave. I don't like any of these artists or I'd probably be thrilled that they can continue to come up with new material years after their deaths, but as a casual observer...it just bugs me. If this music was around when they were alive...which, think about it...it had to be. Why wasn't it released then!? Because it SUCKED!! This is record companies and management capitalizing on the notariety associated with an early demise, releasing second-rate cuts that weren't good enough to make it through the screening process the first time around.

Didn't know the axe could fall that far...

Found out last night that April and Wyatt got their pink slips from CISP yesterday. Good to see loyalty still means something in today's business world.

Hope they both land on their feet. I'm sure they will.

On a happier note:

"She's a fancy stepper when she dances
Go and see her as she kippers and prances
My gal don't do much talking
Dances even when she's walking
One and two and three and four she dances all day long...

Oh my gal is a high part stepper
Ginger with salt and pepper
She's a fancy stepper when she dances
Go and see her as she kippers and prances "

If you can place it...you win a prize!

Laurie...please email me that you're OK. You're the only person from PortClinton I know that I have NOT heard from.

My email is down...

I hate it when my email is down...it makes me feel so cut off from the world. It's amazing how it's become my primary means of communication. I'd usually much rather email than call someone. Weird...

You ever just wake up in the morning and feel GOOD?? Yea...me either...but today was pretty close. I think it's because I didn't eat much yesterday. I feel bright-eyed and well rested today (so far). Kinda cool!!

Well, we'll see when Eddo gets the mail server back up and online. I'm glad he's making this change though, because otherwise it could have resulted in a mail outage of who knows how long.

===================
1:50 pm
It's back up now with a fancy new IP address. Yay Ed....yay Steve!

I just went over to Anderson's for a quick grab of some food since I'm not taking a lunch today. They had these signs out front that touted the arrival of Diet Vanilla Coke, 2 20oz bottles for $1. I didn't get any though, because they didn't have any. I love advertisements for things that don't exist. That's great! I did get a yummy pumpernickel bagel and a regular Vanilla Coke though as well as my all time favorite sweet snack, dried pineapple rings!!

Fonts Galore

Don't know if anyone else who looks at this page likes fonts as much as I do, but I just spent about an hour browsing through some really nice free fonts at CoolArchive.com Well worth the time to browse through their collection. I think I grabbed about 30 new fonts from them.

I raked leaves this AM and made a pot of coffee while I was out. It was great!! An hour of raking with that chill in the air, runny-nose feeling you get, then when I came back into the house it was warm and smelled so good....and the coffee tasted wonderful!! I love November!!

Bunch of monkeys on the ceiling...

I've got a bunch of things I want to write about...get out of my head, but I haven't really been feeling like sitting with the laptop on my lap here lately.

On a bright note, I have a second "meeting" on Monday with the same people I had the meeting with earlier. :-)

Gonna watch Spiderman now.
