Interesting stats

I was looking at Pepperguy.com's usage statistics tonight and, as always, found some interesting things. First of all, one of the crawlers to hit my site was from www.turnitin.com, apparently a repository of the web and blogs that can be cross-referenced to screen for plagarism. I had a typewriter in college.

I also got a few visits from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Yeah...that's right...they were looking for some deep solutions and came to Pepperguy for their physics hook-up.

70 people got to my site by searching for the term "Tunak" or "Tunak Tunak." Daler Mehndi RULES!!!

I also found it interesting that I got more hits from Germany than from the United Kingdom. Fascinating...

Queer Eye

So, have you watched "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" yet? It's on Bravo on Tuesday nights (at least that's when the new episodes are on). It is about the most entertaining show I've seen in years. I just really enjoy it! I've had quite a bit of "gay" exposure over the years, from friends, to co-workers to Bretz...I think this show does a great job of not only entertaining, but also showing people that not every gay man talks with a lisp. LOL The guys, the Fab 5, are a pretty diverse group and just crack me up! Anyhow...I'd recommend it for all but the most hard-core homophobe.

Speaking of queer eyes...my right eye is puffed up and sore today. The inside corner by my nose is pink, puffy, and ouchie! It feels funny and looks bad too. Ick.

I shaved off my moustache this morning, but left the goatee portion on my chin. A bit of a different look. I may just shave it all off tomorrow though. I don't like the way it feels.

All you need is Money -- Er....Love

Kobe, Kobe, Kobe...

http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0724/1585001.html

The boy is an idiot...but he'll get off scot-free I'm sure.

Quote from the event:
Kobe: "Sweetheart, I'm sorry I raped that girl. Here's a 4 million dollar ring. I love you."
Kobe's 19 year old wife: "Oh baby, you're the greatest."
Kobe: "Thanks baby. I've got to go though. I'm meeting, um, some of the guys tonight. Yeah...I'll be back in a couple days. You take care now...if you miss me, just look at that ring."
Kobe's 19 year old wife: "Thank you baby."

Whatever...

Some good news!!

Well, Glasstech made me an offer and I accepted today. :-) Yay! I'm an official full-time permanent employee now. I'm making more $ than I ever have and the benefits are pretty good too! Tomorrow I have to go to MCO and get a physical/drug test/blood test, then I'll officially start on Monday. As good as it feels to have that stability back, it felt even better hearing the responses of my users who were just THRILLED that I'll be staying onboard. All in all, very good news for the Elmore Cummings'.

My bosses took me out to lunch at the Stone Oak Country Club. Kinda funny as a the former CEO of a former employer has a home there that we looked out at from the clubhouse. Just ironic. Black fly....chardonnay....you know.

In other news...well, there's not much other news right now. I'll be looking for a car shortly. The truck will have 165,000 miles on it real soon...it's time.

33 and OLD

Well, I'm on blood pressure medicine now. I've been consistently running 160/110. Not good for G's long-term health. SO I'm now on something called Altace. Yeah, I know...if you go to the website, it's geared to a "mature" audience. Oh well. I'm just prematurely old I guess.

Glasstech is going to make me an offer for a full-time permanent position! Don't know if it'll be today or later this week, but I filled out pertinent paperwork yesterday, so that's pretty exciting!

Going to go take my old-man pills now.

LeBron in BG?

According to this article, the Cleveland Cavs will be bringing their training camp to NW Ohio. Either UT or BG...I think BG would be the better choice if they really want to get away from the hype...hope it works out. It would be cool to see LeBron's hummer parked at DiBenedetto's or Downtown somewhere. :-)

Long arm...

Had a pretty good weekend. It was the Bivins famly reunion. My grandma Rife was a Bivens. All of her siblings are still alive (except for a sister that died when they were children). Grandma is the oldest at 86 and the youngest, Aunt Bobbie, is 75. Pretty amazing bunch of sibs! It wasn't a bad time. It did seem like "Dualing Banjos" should have been playing through most of the reunion though.

Yesterday then, Maryellen and I went to Wauseon. On the way there, on the turnpike, I was cruising along at like 80 and these three vehicles came up FAST in my mirror, so I got over and there was a Range Rover, a Lexus, and an Impala SS that went past me at well over 100MPH. These were all pretty pimped out rides with 20 - 21" chrome rims, blacked out windows, etc...and they were FLYING. I got back into the left lane once they were passed and we mumbled about how we never see people like that get caught. Well...right on cue, I see the grill of an Ohio State Trooper in my rear-view mirror. I got out of his way and he was ON IT!! He was dodging in and out of traffic w/o his lights to catch these guys. It was pretty sweet to watch him maneuver through heavy traffic. By the time we caught back up to them, all 3 were pulled over and I saw another statey coming over the ridge for backup. Kinda nice to see justice served up on people who were blatantly putting others at risk.

Pimpin' Google News

I've been pimping this site, news.google.com, since it's inception almost a year ago now. I love it...it's my homepage and it's the best place to get a HUGE variety of news from every viewpoint. Plus they've got a huge database of sources to search for recent news articles. And added just recently....Google News India!! If you're a techno-geek, check out how they do it. It's all automated using some news-filtering algorithms. COOL!

Been a while...

Well, it's been a week or so since I've blogged. Lots going on. I'm still running, although shin-splints are KILLING me. Today I started my run and could only go for a couple of minutes before I had to stop b/c it hurt too much. So, I walked (limped) back to the house, got my bike out and rode for half-an-hour. Not quite the same workout, but I worked up a sweat and maybe tomorrow my shins will let me run.

Friday night we went out with Ravi and Sue. Tandoor...there's a big surprise. That also started what would become a rather big issue with Maryellen and I regarding a car, my employment situation and lots of other stuff. This kind of blew up on Saturday. Oh well...I understand her concern, but I also don't think constant negativity is the answer. I keep a positive attitude and if things don't work out, so be it. She'd rather prepare for the worst, and then anything more than that is gravy.

So what's going on with my employment situation? Nothing really. I'm on a 6 month contract through a temp agency. I have no benefits. I've been told by Glasstech that my position is budgeted for at least 2 years, but I've asked to become a permanent employee with benefits. Everyone there is in favor of it that I've talked to, it's just semantics and the right people talking to other people before it happens.

Saturday we went to Crane Creek for a while. It was pretty nice. Then yesterday we went up to Catawba Island and hung out with Molters for the afternoon. We took a great boat ride around Catawba/Marblehead and back to the river in Port Clinton then back to Molter's cottage. Got to see Nora for a little while, but she was busy with her friend Katie. It was a good day, I got sunburned, we got groceries, what more can you ask for?

So tired it hurts!!

Well, it was a good holiday weekend, but as always, it went too fast. Overnight, I probably got 2.5 or 3 hours of really good sleep, so I'm going to be dragging today. More later...

Nooks and crannys

I wonder what a cranny is. I've got a pretty good picture of a nook in my head, but I sure don't think I've ever seen a cranny.
