Perpective

Well, I was a little grumpy this morning about coming in to work at 6:30 AM on a Saturday... and then I checked my email and I had 2 emails from Laurie... who is in Iraq...

...kind of puts things in perspective. Thank you Laurie! :-)

Don't Panic!!

To coincide with the upcoming release of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie in April, I'm re-reading the book. My all-time favorite book, mind you!! I think I've read it well over 20 times.

The movie looks interesting, but the trailer already has me wondering how true-to-the-book it will be. In one scene, Arthur yells out to a female character, "TRICIA!!" Well, if you're familiar with the book, the female character in the book is named Trillian...(Tricia McMillan) so... we'll just have to see.

It looks like they're going off of the screenplay written by DNA, so I only hope it's true to the book in that it respects and pays tribute to the genius that was Douglas Adams! If you're a DNA fan and you haven't read Salmon of Doubt yet, do yourself a favor and read it NOW!! It contains bits and pieces of him that never made it to the main-stream US print media. Interviews, essays, short stories... fantastic stuff!! Some of his best, IMO, lending insight into the man after whom I've patterned much of my thinking/sense-of-humor/writing!! He died two weeks to the day after my dad...

Anyhow... Don't panic, remember your towel and 42.

Scary

Ummmmmmmmmm, so at the half time of the NBA All-Star Game they have some "entertainment." LeeAnn Rimes was cute and her song, while very boring, wasn't bad. But right now there's this band on called "Big and Rich" and, well, they suck! What REALLY sucks about them is they have a little person on stage with them wearing a fuzzy orange hat and dancing with his two canes. Does a midget make for an entertaining half time show?? I think not. It's just all really disturbing....REALLY disturbing!!

I ran into Julie Henson at Cedar Creek last night. :-) That was kind of cool.

Back up and running...

Well, I have migrated everything off of the little old Linux box that I had been running www.pepperguy.com from at home. It was a fun experiment and it served me well, but 400Mhz didn't cut it anymore and the noise and space it was taking up is better utilized doing something else! So the Blog has been migrated, I'm working on the gallery too. Beyond that, I don't think there's much anyone looked at, although there are some gems on that old server that I might just breathe some new life into if time permits!

Oh, and just for fun, here's that squirrel that has been such a big hit!

Run off by the Borders...

Well, I heard some rather depressing news last night. Thackeray's Books, a Toledo institution, is closing after 22 years of serving Toledo's readers. Toledo only really has one "mega" bookstore, with Barnes and Noble being right around the corner from Thackeray's, but Thackeray's owners cite competition from just those types of stores as the reason for closing their doors in May. During the next few months, Borders will be opening up as will Books-a-Million in the Toledo area.

Thackeray's was always more fun to go to than B&N. I'm not sure why...they just were. They had a great magazine selection, but I almost always found the book I wanted at B&N instead. *shrug* Now a prime location in Toledo's Westgate Village Shopping Center will be available...

On another note, check out Chiara Civello if you like jazz... VERY Nice!!
