Send it in, Jerome!!!

Almost impossible to believe it was 17 years ago tonight that Pitt's Jerome Lane shattered a backboard on a dunk against Providence... I can remember watching it live on ESPN. Remember when the Big East was THE basketball conference!?!?!? Bill Raftery's call on that dunk was CLASSIC!!

I've scoured the Internet tonight for a photo of that dunk... all I could find was the Pitt media guide.

12" of snow...

Well, we got dumped on once again. It's been a snowy winter so far, to be sure! Friday night and into Saturday we got a foot of snow. The good thing is that it was light, fluffy snow because it's been so damn cold! The shoveling was pretty easy though. Unfortunately, the snow, along with the wind, caused me to miss the BG/UT game because I couldn't get to Bowling Green. Luckily the game was on TV though, so I got to see an amazing game...even if it wasn't in person.

Hmmmmmmmm, what else? Went to Smokey Bones on Friday night and met a couple of other couples. I've never been one for ribs, but oh MAN, I might just be now! Delish!!

OH, and thanks to this blog, I now have a copy of the Lamar Mundane Reebok commercial from 1988!! Thanks to one of the actual actors in the commercial for hooking me up!

Small Block

One of the cool things about working in the "automotive industry" is coming across things like this!

Looking good!

Things are looking pretty good lately. We had a pretty good weekend. It started out with some controversy, but nothing that couldn't be overcome. :-) Saturday I went to the BG basketball game and then straight from there to Wauseon for Christmas with the Kings!! We had fun, to be sure!! Many of you know I'm not a big fan of kids, but the four King kids are something special! I'm convinced it's because of how they've been raised... they don't watch TV, they are active in their Mennonite church, and their parents give a crap!! Harrison, Kayla, Lexi and Eli are actually really enjoyable to be around!

Yesterday then, I cooked most of the day in preparation for our first "Gourmet club" get together. This is a group of couples from our church who are going to meet every-other-month for food and fellowship. It was a BLAST!! The food was delicious!! I made dinner rolls from scratch with a special cinnamon butter (modeled after some from the Texas Roadhouse) and creamed spinach. Mmmmm... The main course was either chicken or salmon on the grill. About half of the salmon was prepared on cedar planks. Talk about GOOD!!! There was home-made potato soup, some really yummy salad, stuffed mushrooms...and a cheesecake that was baked on top of a layer of pound cake and served up with fresh frozen raspberries. Oh my GOD it was good!! Afterwards we all played "Apples to Apples" which had us all laughing big time. It was a really good time.

Tomorrow I'm getting a massage!! I've had two prior and wasn't really impressed with either one. One was at St. Charles hospital and was basically PT, the other was from a lady in Genoa... I received a gift certificate for a session with her... and well, she was kind of intimidating. Not sure how else to describe it.

Tomorrow's massage is with someone I know (although I haven't seen her in a while). I really have always enjoyed her... so this should be a much better experience!! Michelle just got her state certification, so I know she's legit now! Hahaha... It's going to be a "hot stone" massage, which I guess starts out using well... hot stones! LOL Anyhow, I'm REALLY looking forward to it!!

Photos from the dinner and Christmas with the Kings are up in the gallery... so check them out!

Weather Weirdness

OK, so I woke up this morning, January 13, stepped out on the back stoop to let Roodi out and it was 61 degrees. Yeah, 61 at 6AM in January. WEIRD!!

Right now, 15 hours later or so, there's about an inch of snow on the ground. The temp has been plummeting all day long. Current temperature, 30, tonight's low, 17. From 61 - 17 in one day. INSANE!!

PLUS all the snow we had on the ground (10" or so) is gone. Where did it go? Well, into the rivers of course! All those rivers are flooding...the snow melt along with the rain is too much for the rivers to handle. Lots of the little towns along the Portage river are sandbagging and pumping and it's just a mess! Pemberville, Woodville, Elmore, etc... they're all swamps!

Now, as you could imagine, the local news is eating this UP!! There was even a SPECIAL newscast tonight at 7. The 6:00 news just wasn't enough to cover all the TERROR of this weather!! UGH... Granted, it's weird, but it's not worthy of wall-to-wall news coverage.

My favorite kind of snow...

Well, I woke up this morning to 5 1/2 inches of new and completely unexpected snow!! I LOVE that!! It's very pretty snow too, looks very light and fluffy...it's re-whitened the landscape. Granted, it's going to require some more shoveling, but it sure is pretty.

I don't think the weather nazi's got this one right at all. I went to bed thinking there could be a dusting of snow and maybe a little freezing rain this AM, but nothing like this. So, I think this is a good sign for a good weekend!

I'm going to get some groceries today...and I may try to talk Maryellen into going to the BG Hockey game tonight. It's been a LONG time since we've been to a hockey game (probably because I don't really like hockey).

Tomorrow, I'm playing my bass in an alumni athletic band for a BG basketball game. I have mixed feelings about that, I love playing, but sometimes it's just more fun to be a fan only. I have what I believe will be a FANTASTIC outfit for the game though... so it should be special. ;-) I'll take pictures...

My Powerbook!!!

This is the first post from my new Powerbook!! So far, it's pretty damn SWEET!!!! I might just be a convert... it'll take quite a while to fully evaluate, of course. So far, it's been about the easiest thing in the world to set up and use!

I'll post more as I learn more... so far though, one of the most amazing things is the lack of waste in the packaging. When I get a new Dell laptop in at work, I end up throwing away a box full of crap!! With this, it's obvious Apple cares about things other than just the bottom-line. Everything is quality, and the packaging is such that the only thing I'm pitching is the clear, cling-wrap that was on the power adapter!!

OK, back to playing now... :-)
