Run off by the Borders...

Well, I heard some rather depressing news last night. Thackeray's Books, a Toledo institution, is closing after 22 years of serving Toledo's readers. Toledo only really has one "mega" bookstore, with Barnes and Noble being right around the corner from Thackeray's, but Thackeray's owners cite competition from just those types of stores as the reason for closing their doors in May. During the next few months, Borders will be opening up as will Books-a-Million in the Toledo area.

Thackeray's was always more fun to go to than B&N. I'm not sure why...they just were. They had a great magazine selection, but I almost always found the book I wanted at B&N instead. *shrug* Now a prime location in Toledo's Westgate Village Shopping Center will be available...

On another note, check out Chiara Civello if you like jazz... VERY Nice!!

Wow, that's sad about Thackeray's, but kudos to them for lasting as long as they have with B&N right around the corner. I was always more partial to Thack's too-- seemed to be more of a "booklovers'" environment than a commercialized production of one.

Are they having a sell-all clearance sale? mmmmmm book sales....

I was wondering about the clearance sale too, Clarence! As I understand it though, Thackeray's has been getting their books through Borders now for a LONG time anyhow, so I'm just going to assume that Borders will absorb the Thackeray's inventory... If not, I'll be hitting that sale when it happens!
