2nd Anniversary

Two years ago today, my dad died. Needless to say, this was a hard day. I woke up with memories of how I woke up 2 years ago and had to make that final drive to Columbus. How mom and I talked with the doctors and decided there was no chance of him ever getting better, so we took him off of life support. I think I remember every minute of that day.

SOLD!!

The pez dispenser sold yesterday for $117.50. For a PEZ DISPENSER!!! What's up with that?!

The Pac Man game is at $102.50 right now with 8 hours or so to go.

Time to raid the closets at my mom's house and see what else is there!!

Couple of things...

First off...the Pez dispenser is at $66 and the Pac Man game is at $91 right now. Damn. I'm just amazed!!

Saw a couple of good movies recently. First was "In the Bedroom." I thought it was absolutely wonderful! I had it figured out by the end, but I still wanted to see it play out. Pretty good psycho-thriller. Then tonight we watched "Drumline." If you were ever in marching band, check it out. If you weren't...I don't know if it would appeal to you. It was a little corny, but still an enjoyable flick.

I've brought home 1500 pounds of cement and 30 8' 4X4's over the past 2 days. Tomorrow we rent a two man power auger and start the installation of the fence around our back yard. Yikes!!

Famous Friends

Remember a few months ago I told you all about Moss' website where he rates all the dishes at Henry Hunan's?? Here...refresh your memory, I'll wait..

Well, it seems like the entire city of San Francisco has become fascinated with our little liberal friend. :-) Check out this article that ran recently in the San Francisco Chronicle!!

I'd like to point out that I scooped one of the nation's most well respected newspapers by almost 5 months. ;-)

Blow baby blow!

Well, last night Maryellen and I got to practice the brass piece we'll be doing in church Sunday with the choir. Unfortunately, everything I had practiced prior was wrong. LOL...The trumpet part was written in the wrong key, so I had to transpose it in order to play in the same key as the trombones, the piano and the choir. What fun!! Luckily I was able to fumble through it last night and play along some, and then when I got home, I entered the music into Finale in the RIGHT key. I also did it for the girl who's going to play the second trumpet part. I think she was a little over her head last night when the word "Transpose" was spoken.

I think it's going to sound really cool on Sunday though! We're practicing again Friday and Sunday before the service.

No one is here at work today...very quiet. Should make for some good RedHat 9 installing. :-)

I wanna be like Mike!!

Well, I saw the ending of the career of the only figure, other than my dad, that I really idolized tonight. Gotta admit, I got a little teary. I saw him in person first his rookie season at a game in the Silverdome against the Pistons...he had one of his dunks that's in every hi-lite reel. I saw him play in Chicago, both in the old Chicago Stadium and also in the United Center. I got my photo taken with his Corvette. I've owned several pairs of Air Jordans. More Jordan/Nike clothes than you could imagine. It's safe to say I wanted to "Be like Mike."

People always asked me why I thought he was so great...what made me idolize him. It's really simple. Michael Jordan was the best in the whole world at what he did, but that was never enough. He would still work every day to make himself better. Most people would make it to the top and be satisified with that, but not Michael Jordan. To be the best wasn't enough...to be the best, and still continue to get better...that's what being Michael Jordan is all about. That's why I did and do idolize him.

20,273 in stunned silence

The Shot...

I get goosebumps every single time I see or hear that. One of the defining moments in MJ's career. And Craig Ehlo's too for that matter. ;-)

Farewell to Michael

I'm going to post something I once wrote about MJ on here later, and maybe some other thoughts on Michael...but for now, read these words from Bill Walton. I've never been a huge Walton fan, and sometimes think he considers himself "holier than thou," but this really does say part of what I feel today very well...

Hard to believe...

It was 2 years ago today that my dad had his fatal surgery to remove the cancerous portion of his liver at the James Cancer Ceter of OSU. Amazing how I can still remember just about every moment of those last 11 days after the surgery. I was practically commuting from Elmore to Toledo to Columbus on a daily basis. Not what I'd call fun memories. :-(

Depression sucks!

I've been down for a while now. I think I've just convinced myself that I'm not. Seriously, it's been years. That sucks. I have moments of fun and happiness, but the majority of the time, I'm just feeling bummed. Not looking for a pity party, just stating a fact.

It's warm in Elmore tonight. It was 85 today and the house still hasn't really cooled down tonight even though I have every window and door open. I don't like being hot. Fans are good.

A friend once wrote me a poem called "Smiling though my tears." I lost it...I hope to get another copy. It was really awesome...moved me to tears. She wrote it for me when my dad died.

My laptop battery came today. Very cool. Completely wireless now. I'd forgotten how nice that is. I can go anywhere in the house, or outdoors for that matter, and be powered up and connected to the network now.

I guess that's it for tonight. I think I'm going to go up and read myself to sleep.

I have to chair a meeting tomorrow at work. Should be interesting. Wish me luck.

The most important word in the vernacular right now? Bling.

The band Elwood the band!

We just got back from our first practice w/the Genoa Legion Band! I was the only French horn (or freedom horn...lol). There were probably 30 people there including Jim Reed & Charlie Brewster from my HS band days!

It looks like this wiltbe a fun group to be a part of! We're one of only 2 or 3 Legion bands in the state!

Now...if I can only convince the group to play 80's music!

Because I can!

I'm writing this post lying on my back in bed with my wireless Dell Axim. I haven't done much of a site survey yet, but I'm betting I'll be able to use this anywhere on our property!

I love gadgets!

Hum de dum

Lots going on...much of it private and not bloggable. (if that's not a word...it sure should be)

Work is still great. I'm putting in some overtime tomorrow. Pretty good sign that I'll be sticking around long-term...they've got so much work I can't get it done in 40, so that's cool. The time-and-a-half is pretty nice too!

I'm still caffeine and soda-pop free since Ash Wednesday. It was pretty rough the first few days. I still crave a Diet Pepsi...but that's about it.

I've got the weekend alone this week. I've got some computer work to catch up on for a few friends and the like. A few websites I do work on need some embellishment, so hopefully I can get that done. Plus it's supposed to be nice out, so maybe I can get some things done in the yard and plant the rose bush my aunt and uncle sent for Maryellen's dad's funeral.

A good weekend!

Well, last night we had a very nice evening. Had a good dinner at SamB's in BG. Then on to see Jane Monheit. She sounded so awesome!! Just a perfect voice. Wonderful control and effortless grace when she sings. The only drawback was her somewhat distracting habit of flipping her LONG hair back while she sung. LOL...

She looked beautiful too. 8-) We got to meet her for a few minutes after the show. Had her sign a couple of things. When I asked her to sign the DVD insert for Ed I told her he was at a Wynton Marsalis/LCJO concert, she got all excited talking about this project she just completed with Wynton. Very sweet girl, and an amazing singer.

Today we did the MS walk. Cold...didn't do the whole thing. We ended up going to Cafe Marie for a late breakfast though. YUMMY!!! Between the two of us, Maryellen and I raised over$1300 for the National MS Society!! Thanks to those who helped out!

Wireless PDA...Jazz...Jane...

Well, I got a CF WiFi card for my PDA and let me tell you, it is AWESOME at work!! I can synch to my workstation wirelessly so if I get an email, it alerts me right away, wherever I am! Very cool! Also you can browse the web, use MSN Messenger, and the COOLEST thing for a techno geek like me...terminal services! Yes, I can maintain any of our servers from my PDA wirelessly!! WOO HOO!!

Went to BG last night with Eddo. Had dinner and cruised BG a little bit. We went to the Faculty Jazz concert then. It was good, but not as good as in past years. (I've been going for 14 years) I think it was just a matter of my taste though. They had a guy with them playing vibes and marimba...not my cup of tea. Granted, he was really good...but I don't really like those instruments as part of a jazz ensemble. Never-the-less...jazz...and LIVE jazz is awesome to me. It's just pure feeling and creativity. I think Ed liked it so maybe we'll check them out again.

And Saturday is the Jane Monheit concert!! I'm pumped!! Talked to someone at the concert last night who organizes the shows at BG and she said that Jane will be signing CD's at the show... :-) My digital camera is going along for SURE!!
