Outtie

We're flying out to Portland, Oregon tomorrow. Can't wait! I believe it's my first vacation longer than a 3 day weekend in 7 years. Isn't that ridiculous? Portland, Cannon Beach, Hood River and Mt. St. Helen's. Should be an awesome trip!!

If I have internet access, I'll try to post something as the week progresses...if not, I'll talk to you all in about 9 days!

So long, old friend...

Well, after 10+ years, I am no longer the owner of a purple 1994 Chevy S-10. It served me well for over 174,000 miles. It was the first "big ticket" item I ever bought on my own. I has taken me all over the Midwest and has been the forum for many interesting discussions, much MUCH music and a few clove cigarettes... It was a fantastic vehicle and I will honestly miss it.

I sold it today to a young migrant from Texas. He was planning on fixing it up (aka Pimping it out) and seemed genuinely excited to buy it. His whole family was involved in the purchase...his parents, his sister and a very little girl who could have been his girl all came to see it, kick the tires, and eventually drive away with it.

So long, old friend...may you serve your new owner well...

Milestone

Well, it was 5 years ago yesterday (I wanted to post, but a power surge through Elmore's archaic power-grid ate my router yesterday) that Maryellen woke up unable to see out of her right eye. After a trip to the ER and a few more doctor appointments the following couple of days, we learned that it was MS.

Now, five years later, Maryellen is running her first official 10K on Sunday in Portland, Oregon! How freaking cool is that?? I used to worry about her running, that she'd get too hooked on it and then be crushed if MS made it so she COULDN'T run anymore, but now I'm just so proud of her each time she goes out. She's set goals and she's achieved them. MS or no MS, that's inspirational! She impresses me every day. :-)

Hens

Went to a Mudhens game last night. It was pretty fun! Here are some pics from the evening. The two guys singing the National Anthem are from Woodmore, my Alma Mater!

Moss' Trip to Ohio

Moss just posted the pics from his trip to Ohio over the 4th of July. They're worth spending some time looking through, especially if you know Moss, enjoy fireworks, or just like pictures, there are some good ones there!

Terraserver

Like Terraserver?? Like databases?? Here's a little info on Terraserver's DB schema and how they run their server cluster. If you're not into that kind of stuff, don't waste your time. I think it's pretty cool though.

That's our house on Terraserver, although before we owned it. The pool that you can see in the back yard is no longer there, the yard is fenced in and there is a nice concrete pad for a driveway now...hopefully they'll update the image soon as that one is almost 10 years old.

Just a couple of things

First of all, I'm still kind of disgusted with the fact that the media has completely forgotten about our rovers on Mars. These things were designed to have 90-sol (Mars "days") missions...well Spirit just passed its 180th sol and Opportunity is at 160 sols. These amazing engineering accomplishments are almost completely ignored by the media.

Second of all...check out this picture taken the other day on Mars:

Yeah...those are clouds...water clouds. That picture just freaks me out a little bit. It looks so "Earthly." Just awesome...

Finally...add Tony's blog to your daily read. He writes some fun stuff!

This is pretty cool

I got a dollar bill in my change at Cedar Point yesterday that had the website www.whereisgeorge.com stamped on it, so when I got home, I looked it up. It asks you for the serial # on the bill, the zip code where you are and any other info about it and then shows you the history of this same bill that others have filled in. Kind of clever. This is the link to the bill I found:

4th and beyond

Had a so-so 4th of July weekend. Started off great seeing Moss who was here from San Francisco! Lots of fun and laughs as always! Then M and I went for a 5K run on Saturday morning and she passed her 1000th mile of running! How freaking awesome is that?!?!

Unfortunately, we both came down with something and ended up skipping the fireworks on Saturday after a cook out at mom's house.

Pics of the weekend are up on my gallery page.

Update

Haven't been surfing much or writing much...so, I haven't updated this in a while.

Let's see, we went to Cedar Point the other week and had an absolutely GREAT time! Perfect weather, the rides were fun, lines were short, and people watching prime! We're actually going back on Wednesday. My cousin Lindsay will be here, so we're going to go with her. :-)

Moss will be home tomorrow and for the weekend. It'll be good to hang out with him some. Nothing like a conservative and a liberal getting together to chat over some beers. ;-)

My car was in the shop for a little while. Clunking noise on the driver's side. Turns out the rear door was out of adjustment, but it took them forever to figure that out, so I had the pleasure of driving a Passat Wagon for a night. LOL

One month from now, we'll be in Portland, Oregon. OH...and that's what's exciting; while there, Maryellen and I will be running in the Run Hit Wonders race! Could there be a better event for a couple of 80's loving runners?!??!
