Going WAY back

One really cool gift I got for Christmas was from my mom. She got two really old photos scanned in and touched up and then printed and framed for me. The two pictures are of my Great-Great Grandfather and my Great-Great Grandmother is one too. (click on the images below for a bigger view)

In this one, my GGGrandmother is seated and my GGGrandpa is the one on the left with the moustache and trumpet/cornet:

This one is a shot of a quintet of some sort. You can see my GGGrandpa second from the right with the cornet.

My Great Great Grandpa's name was Rock. Not 100% sure if his last name was Cummings or not. I'm going to try to find that out. It was my Grandpa Cummings' Grandfather though. Pretty cool!!

It is...

I heard this read on the radio today. For the full text, check out www.michaelgraham.com

This is just the last few paragraphs:
=============================
It is as precious as a baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger. It is as painful as a flesh-torn hand and a thorn-crowned head. It is the reason for both.

And if every Santa song and earnest prayer, every sincere gift and imagined wrong, every Christmas dinner and New Year's toast, every unanswered invitation and unwelcome guest, every office party kiss and happy child's hug — if every human moment of the entire holiday season could be stripped of its tinsel and pretense and price tag and reduced to its truest essence, we would find it there, the only gift ever given at Christmas, the same gift, passed from hand to hand.

It is hope.

It is Christmas.
=============================
Merry Christmas everyone! No matter your religion, may the spirit of Christmas Hope find its way into your heart this holiday season.

Oooooooooooooooooh...pretty!!

Well, it looks like we're going to have a second straight white Christmas!! Doesn't our house look pretty??

This is a look down our street...

Plus, I saw these swans or geese or something flying over as I was out taking pictures and I got a shot of them. If anyone can identify them, please let me know. I know they're not Canadian Geese though, which is what we normally see flying over. Click here to see them (it's a big picture).

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Car and an anniversary

Well, my car is officially ordered now. I got a 2004 Golf GLS TDI as I had mentioned earlier. I went with "Tornado Red" with a gray interior. Should be pretty sweet!! Can't wait to start getting 50 MPG!! If you're interested in the TDI engine or the claims of mileage, check out www.tdiclub.com for the best info there is about this amazing engine! Oh...it's expected to run for WELL over 250,000 miles too! Looks like I'll have another car I can keep for 10 years! They still say it could be 12 weeks before I get the car though. :-( Sheesh... Maybe it'll show up on my birthday on 3/6. That would be pretty sweet.

Speaking of 10 years, I'm not 100% sure, but I think I graduated from BGSU 10 years ago today. I mean, I'm sure I graduated, but I'm not sure of the date. It was a December grad though, and I think it was right about now. I think it was the 20th. I suppose I could look at my diploma, but I'm not that interested in finding out I guess.

Stupid Volkswagen. :-(

Well, looks like it's going to be a WHILE before I'm driving anything new. There aren't any Golf GLS TDI's available, so that means I have to order one. Ok, great, that means I'm assured exactly what I want, BUT it means 12 weeks. TWELVE WEEKS!! It'll be warm again in 12 weeks. SHEESH. So I'm a little frustrated.

Gotta work this Sunday AM. UGH... Not my idea of fun the weekend before Christmas, but, you do what you gotta do I guess.

I still have 2 things to buy for Maryellen. Hopefully I can get those wrapped up (pun intended) tomorrow and be all done.

Getting there...

I am starting to finally feel better. The past week has pretty much been worthless though. I'm still hacking up globs of crud, and don't have 100% of my strength back, but I'm on the mend. Avoid this bug at all costs if you're able.

Yesterday I spent my lunch hour at Ed Schmidt VW and they're in the process of finding a car for me. :-) 2004 VW Golf GLS TDI. Lots of letters there. Hopefully they'll be able to find one with the options I want (there's really only one option I want -- heated seats...mmmmmmmmmmmm) and in a color that's not too offensive. If they don't find one w/in driving distance, then it'll probably be 12 weeks or so if we have to order one from VW.

Off to work...

Flu

Well, I have the flu. It sucks. I stayed home from work today, slept for about 20 out of the past 24 hours, ache everywhere, cough, chills, all that crap. UGH.

I'll try to go to work tomorrow, but if I don't feel better in the AM, I doubt I'll make it. These things usually don't keep me down for too long though.

Gonna go do a shot of NyQuil and pass out again. Word.

Kinda slow...

Haven't updated much lately. Things have been kind of slow lately. The football game last week was a rude awakening. Miami is a top 10 team and they have the best QB in the nation. He has proved it over and over again. Their one loss to Iowa was a fluke, or they'd be playing in a BCS bowl. The whole BCS thing is a sham this year though.

Most of my Christmas shopping is done. Just a few little things to get for Maryellen still, but the big stuff is done.

Went over to Nora's last night for a little while, dropping of the mellophone I borrowed from the school and the present she got for her boyfriend. I had planned on just dropping by, but ended up staying for quite a while. It never ceases to amaze me how much I have in common with this young lady. Yeah...just like me, she's awesome! LOL Today I will scan in a page or two from my HS chemistry notebook and compare it with the notes she's taking right now. Yes...Mr. Markley is still teaching. I'm betting that apart from the little dialogues I had with Ravi on my notebook margins, our notes will be the same.

Work has been good. Glasstech is in 2 big warehouses. The one I'm in has a portion of it (maybe a third of it or so) converted into offices, but it's COLD in the winter time. Everyone has little space heaters in their offices. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Something is wrong with the antenna system in my truck. My XM radio doesn't get a signal in my truck, when I bring it home and plug it in, it's fine. It's been too cold to mess with the antenna and cableing, but maybe I'll park it in the garage tonight and check things out while M's at work.

The B!G Game

Well, the MAC Championship game is tonight in BG. ESPN will be back in the house (It's on ESPN2 tonight at 7 local time)' Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Mike Tirico will be there. It's big time! The weather is supposed to be pretty nasty, but nothing out of the ordinary for NW Ohio in December. If you like your football down and dirty, tune in! It's going to be sloppy, messy, and will showcase two of the best quarterbacks in the nation!!

I'm fighting a nasty sinus infection and a headache that won't quit, hopefully I can get that out of my system before standing out in the elements for 3 hours or so.

I still haven't bought a car.

Gotta get to work...GO BG!

Run/Bike/Swim

My cousin, Lindsay, will be competing in the World Triathlon Championships in New Zealand this weekend. She's been working up to this for the past 10 years maybe? She's just an amazing athelete!! The website to follow the races is at http://www.triworlds2003.com/. She's one of the best in the whole country in her age group. AND she just had her first baby back in June! Can you tell I'm a little bit proud of her?? Way to go, Linds!! Wish I could be there to cheer you on...but we're thinking about you from the other side of the world!

The Falcons roll!!

The Thanksgiving weekend was a big success for G. Thursday was traditional turkey dinner at grandma's house. It was nice. Mom, Grandma, Mellen, uncle Tracy, Debbie, and Debbie's parents were there. The food was delicious! Dug out some old photo albums too...I was sure a cute little kid. ;-)

Friday was prep day for the tent/tailgate party. I shopped and cooked pretty much all day. Made some chili and habanero-lime cheesecake. The cheesecake was a huge success, the chili was good, but we couldn't enjoy it at the tailgate because BGSU didn't have the electricity they had promised. :-(

Saturday I went to BG at 7, got the tent set up and hosted a party for about 50 - 60 people from the website! It was such a blast!! Sold my t-shirts to those who pre-ordered them and sold some others on top of that to raise $ for the continued support of running the site. We partied for a few hours before the game then it was time for kickoff. BG won a great game to win the MAC West and will play Miami on Thursday night on ESPN2...so tune in and support the Falcons!!

After thawing out, Maryellen and I went to the Maumee Bay Brewing Company to celebrate her birthday! Had the best restaurant meal we've had in a LONG time. The food was delicious and the service was really outstanding too! Good stuff!

Sunday was going to be a relax day, but we ended up taking mom out for coffee after church, then ended up being busy for the rest of the day too.
