Are you ready for some football??

I'm kinda excited about the first BGSU football game tonight. Not so much because it's a football game, I'm not that big a football fan really, but because I'll get to meet some of the people from ay-ziggy-zoomba.com! We're tailgating pregame. Should be fun.

I've got my new digital camera so maybe I'll get some good pictures from the pregame/gametime festivities too.

School

I want to go back to school! Several people I know are doing it. Tuel is going back to get her degree, Naj is, Cheryl is in law school...I miss academia. I'm taking a practice run of the GRE at BGSU on 9/7...just to get a feel for where I stand with that test. From there I'll try to plan out my approach to grad school.

I've been getting lots of advice regarding how to go about trying to get a position in the school district...it's the first job that really just sounds right to me.

Mellen had an MRI yesterday. Not sure what it said yet, but she'll most likely look it up in the computers tonight when she works. Fingers are crossed.

Guess I'd better get ready for work. This week has been pretty fun actually. I like my job a lot when I'm busy, and with Mike in Philadelphia, I've been busy!! Yesterday I got AT&T Cable in Pennsylvania on the phone and explained to them a problem I'd seen before with one of our clients. They kept claiming the problem wasn't theirs so I got involved and had them look at whay I thought the issue was. The three day long issue was resolved in under 10 minutes. YAY!

Going to bed early...

Not a whole lot of news. I had an OK weekend. We're putting together the details for buying the materials for fencing in our back yard. Should be a good project. I think we're going to go in with George (a co-worker of Maryellen's) and get a power auger for a day. Use it at our house for half the day and at George's for the other half.

We had a fun Friday night with George and Beth and Mark and Tonya. Beer, food and conversation. All good!

I bought a digital camera yesterday!! FujiFinepix 2800 Zoom. It takes AWESOME pictures!! I'll be putting some up on the site sometime soon. Taking pictures of all my peppers!!

I'm going to bed early tonight. Stayed up till about 2:30 this morning. My old bones just can't do that anymore. :( I'm reading a good book so I'll just read myself to sleep tonight.

G'night!

I'm addicted to Wint-O-Green Life Savers!!!

North by Northwest

We watched North by Northwest last night. Really good movie. Cary Grant and Bowling Green's own Eva Marie Saint. Movie is listed as one of the 100 best of all time. I'd have to agree. There were a few "Hokey" 1959 type moments (like the kissing scenes), but other than that, it was great!

It's Friday!! We're getting together with a couple of Maryellen's co workers tonight and then she works for the rest of the weekend.

Time to go to work.

YAWN.......

Man oh man...it's Wednesday. Thank GOD. The first 2 days of this week went really fast and pretty well, today, however, has been like getting my blood sucked out by leeches...slowly losing feeling in my extremeties.

Anyway...I'm anxious to hear from my P-burg job opportunity to see how that goes. I'm not holding out a whole lot of hope, but I'm not writing it off yet either.

Frank is interviewing at BGSU today. Sure would be awesome if he could land that job! Working at a university would just be the best I think. Great benefits, great surroundings, free tuition...lots of good perks.

You can get a round trip from TOL to MDW in Chicago for $114 through ATA...that's pretty decent. I've half considered just picking up one weekend and going. No real reason, no plan...just going to see where I'd end up. Might be fun!

Moss' site is down. :(

Really cool!!

Well, the coolest thing happened today. I got two DVD's in the mail from my Amazon.com wishlist!! Members of my BGSU sports website, Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com had been asking if they could send money to help with the site. I told them they could get me something off my wish list or send a donation to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, or the National MS Society. Well, a couple of people have made donations and I got UHF and North by Northwest from my wish list!!

Work was actually pretty good today. I spent 5 hours trying to get this Exchange server in NY working for one of our clients. I ended up getting SMTP working and inter-office mail through exchange, but can't get the pop3 connector to work. In fact, I can't even get it installed. Oh well...they've got SBS2000 installed, but only have the disks for SBS 5.5.

Toledo politics is at least interesting lately.

Pretty good weekend.

The weekend was pretty good. My Grandma had surgery to repair her Zenkers Diverticuli on Friday and she came through that with flying colors!! Unfortunately, we learned yesterday that the surgery may not have been as successful as they had originally led us to believe :( They actually want Grandma to undergo another surgery. She'll be 85 in October and has never been anything but really healthy, but she's kind of discouraged about having MORE surgery to fix something that they said the first surgery would fix. So she's going to come home today (supposedly) and think things over for a week or two before deciding what to do about the second surgery.

The rest of the weekend was good too. Maryellen and I went to the zoo for the first time in a long while. The free flight bird show was really impressive! We really liked that...it was cool to have the big birds flying over head. It was kind of warm though. Then we chowed at Spaghetti Warehouse before heading to St. V's to see Grandma.

But now it's back to work....yippee. See my enthusiasm???

An old G-Rant

Back when I worked for CISP, I would occasionally write a column called G-Rants for our company newsletter. Here's one of them with more to come:

I'm afraid I may sound like that Andy Rooney guy on 60 Minutes, but I've got a beef and I want to get it out in the open. Wyatt asked me if I could contribute something "editorial" for the newsletter, so here goes.

I hate the way people treat the English language. Maybe it's because that was my major in college. Maybe it's because, during a 3-day in-school suspension in high school, the principal forced me to read the dictionary for 6 hours each day. Or maybe it's just because I'm a dork.

There are certain phrases, words, and expressions that are misused more often than they are used correctly. The worst of all offending phrases in my mind is "I could care less." What the heck do people think they are saying when they're uttering this drivel? Think about it for just a second ... no really stop, collaborate and listen (no wait ... that's not what I meant). Think about that phrase. The person making the above statement is saying something completely different than what they believe they're saying. The correct statement is "I couldN'T care less," which means you care as little as is humanly possible.

Other instances? Seen, when you should say saw. Mute, when you should say moot. "Nucular" instead of nuclear. Writing the non-word "alot" or using the word "allot" incorrectly. Grab yourself a dictionary ... visit www.m-w.com ... think about what you're saying. Listen to yourself.

<corporate-tie-in> To tie this into CISP, how many of us have actually met any of our clients or end-users face-to-face? I would hazard to guess that for more than 95% of our users, the only contact they have with us is verbal or written. That's why it is so important to communicate correctly and effectively.</corporate-tie-in>

Ok ... that's my rant. I don't want to sound holier-than-thou, I do it too, and it pisses me off when someone catches me speaking wrong.

I'll leave you with one final thought from one of my idols, Steve Martin. I think he summed it up perfectly when he said, "May I mambo dog-face to the banana patch?"

Ahhhhhhhh....Sleep

I actually slept like a log last night!! I did wake up a couple times, but unlike the previous nights, I fell right back to sleep last night.

Today is FRIDAY!! YAY!! This has been a long, slow week. We don't have any plans for this weekend either. Should be able to recharge my batteries.

My grandma has surgery today on her throat. She's 84 years old and she's having surgery. I think everything will be fine, but it's still a bit scary. They plan to keep her overnight and mom is planning on staying with her. Maryellen will be going to the hospital for surgery time and I'll be stopping by after work.

Guess that's it for this morning.

Berkeley Breathed

Just found some great memories in these two websites:

http://www.berkeleybreathed.com and

http://avclub.theonion.com/avclub3728/avfeature_3728.html

I LOVED Bloom County so much in the 80's. I have all the books, have the MP3's of the Billy and the Boinger's songs and really miss that kind of humor. In fact, I miss comic strips that you could actually read. Dilbert is ok, but there was an art to Bloom County. Oh well...it's gone.

Tomorrow is Friday. Thank GOD.

It's too early

I was up and ready for work before I normally would get out of bed today. I did sleep better and more though. For some reason I sleep much better when Maryellen is home. Probably subconscious worry when she's not around or something.

Grandma has surgery tomorrow. I know mom is a little freaked about it, but I've got a feeling all will go well!

This weather caster on TV right now just told me to take tomorrow off. Hmmmm...sounds appealing!

Doug is going to install our new doors in exchange for my setting up a network of all their computers. COOL!! We've got two new screen/storm doors and a new entry door for in the kitchen. They're going to get cable modem access and then they have two computers in other buildings that they want to network, so I'll hook them up with that.

I'm gonna go get something to drink.

La de da...

Pretty boring day at work. Mike was out all day, up in Detroit so there wasn't much in the way of conversation which makes a typically boring day almost unbearable. Mike'll be gone for at least the first part of tomorrow as well. Oh well.

I'm going down to Schmidt's tonight to see why their new Dell won't connect to the Internet. I've been trying to get down there for weeks it seems like.

Slotterbeck's cancelled our beer tasting for this weekend, so the partaking of excellence will have to wait for a while longer. :(

Moss emailed me from his cell phone today. Moss...of all people. I never would have guessed it. Strong Sam may never be the same.

I'm tired...Maryellen is tired...looks like a fun night at the Cummings household!!

Oh...I almost forgot

I made the best dinner tonight. Took an onion and a tomato out of the garden, got 3 pita bread circle things, put them on a pizza plate, put some of my home-made pizza sauce on them, a slice of tomato, a slice of onion, some cheese and then topped them off with some fresh oregano. Popped them into a 400 degree oven for 12 - 15 minutes and MAN were they good!!

MMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm

Who needs sleep??

I sure don't. I've had bad nights the past few in a row...just haven't been able to relax and get sleep. Oh well, maybe tonight!

I've added the little mood indicator, having been inspired by Tuel. Kind of cute and fun...my problem will be that I won't remember to update it and I'll remain "Itchy" for eternity.

Well, I thought I found a great deal for webhosting for AZZ.com, but alas, after trying to contact them 3 times now, I've gotten no response back. At least they haven't charged the CC yet. If they do, I'll be contacting the better business bureau. The company is datahosts.net BTW...looks like a great deal, but then again, if they're not really there...how good is it?!

Today I found out you can get AMAZING prices on Micro$oft products if you're a Methodist church. How about Office XP Professional for $30?!?!?! Uh huh, yea. I think I'll become a religion, then I'll be set!

Got a book from the library today to prep for the GRE. I'm taking the practice test 9/7 at BGSU...I'm not going to do any preparation prior to that though so I can judge where I'm at. I'd like to start taking classes in the spring, but I don't know if that will happen or not. Sure would be fun and I'm really excited about the program they offer, so we will have to see what happens.

Gotta watch American Idol tonight. I have to admit, I'm addicted. I haven't been hooked on a TV show since Seinfeld went off the air, but this summer I have really gotten into these kids. I think Kelly and Justin are probably the most talented and have the most "Star Quality." Plus it's fun to see Paula Abdul. 39...impressive!

Tired...

Man am I tired. I didn't sleep well last night and today seemed LONG...so now I think I'm going to turn in at the ripe old hour of 10PM.

Not sure what's going on outside, sounds like there have been gunshots for the past 5 minutes or so, but then again, it IS Elmore. Might be someone getting breakfast ready for tomorrow. Mmmmmmmmmmm...Coon!!

Did you hear the one about the guy they found dead in the fridge? Yea...pretty sweet Toledo type story. They found this old guy who had been missing in a fridge. Apparently someone wanted to preserve the body until they could decide what to do with it. Well, that's all well and good except the thing wasn't running. When they found him, he was so far decomposed all they could do was DNA testing to ID him and they said he was too far gone to determine a cause of death. Nice...

Monday, Monday.....da...da...da.da.da.da.....

Man, Monday morning's suck. I'm at work, bored already.

I drank a bunch before bed last night. NOT a good idea. Plus I had an apple which was probably 95% water and some yogurt which is liquidy. Needless to say, I had to get up a couple of times in the middle of the night to relieve myself. Then the dog, who apparently was following my lead before bed, had to get up and pee. Maryellen does NOT wake up usually, so I took him out at 3:45 and couldn't get back to sleep. Sleep is overrated anyhow.

I got a free CD last night!! I get points for taking surveys from Harris Poll and I reached 1600 which earned me a CD. I chose Cassandra Wilson. YAY.

I've been trying to remember the name of this girl I saw the other day driving Jenny Schmidt around. Damnit I hate that. I know who she is, she was in school a few years behind me, but I can't come up with her name and it's been driving me nuts!!

Ok...work...yea...whatever.

It was fun

Having the ladies over last night was fun. We made pizzas. I made the dough and even made home-made sauce!! Then Dorie and Sue brought over toppings and we made two pizzas, Dorie and Sue made one and Mellen and I made the other.

Beer was drunk.

Sue ended up leaving early because of some domestic issues she's going through.

Mellen, Dorie and I watched Vanilla Sky then...it pretty much sucked I thought. Kind of confusing and not much of a story to make you want to figure it out.

Met with Mark and Cindee yesterday about computers and Internet access for the church. We've got a budget laid out and will be purcahsing the equipment this week most likely.

I didn't see any meteors last night, but then again, I wasn't looking. I don't know what we're doing today. Hopefully it will be relaxing. :)

Tomorrow

Well, it turns out that tomorrow it's not going to be just Dorie, but Sue as well. I'll be entertaining 3 beautiful nurses. I'm going to make home-made pizza for them, we'll have beer and some booze as well. Should be fun.

I'm liking this blog thing. Woo Hoo!!

Adding some more text

This is just adding some more text to see how the window handles more text. I'm working with the style sheet trying to make this look slick, but thus far I don't really like the layout. I'll have to play with the template some more. All in all though, this blog rocks!!

Here's even more text. Yes, I'm still bored at work. Less than a half hour though and it's lunch time. Then only half a day until the weekend! WOO HOO!! We're doing something with Dorie tomorrow. Dorie rules!!

My stomach/intestines decided to rid themselves of whatever it was that was causing distress. They did so rather abruptly and violently at that...what fun. The bathroom has been my friend today!

Back to the CSS and playing....

Welcome Aboard

Well, this is the new BLOG. I like it. It's by Movable Type...very slick interface and a great look that can be easily customized!

I'm having lunch with Wyatt, April and Greene today at the China Buffet thingie. At least I think I am. Only Greene has replied back. We've been planning all week though so I'm pretty sure Ape and Wyatt will show too. If not, oh well.

I feel like crap today. 2 1/2 days now that I've felt bad. I think it's probably some kind of flu bug. Either that or it's just fattness catching up with me.

Today is Friday. It can't go fast enough! So far, I've been incredibly bored at work. Yesterday was good. I was busy, today I'm not, so it sucks.
